Labour hire rates NZ

Labour hire rates in New Zealand, explained honestly

What sits inside a charge-out, what moves it, and how we price. No hidden margin line. We quote the job rather than publishing a fake brochure number.

Inside the number

What sits inside a charge-out rate

A labour hire charge-out is not the worker’s wage. It is the wage plus the statutory and operating costs of employing them, plus the work of screening and payroll, plus a margin.

Typically that includes ACC, KiwiSaver employer contributions, annual leave and other leave loadings where they apply, and our admin. Overtime and penal rates sit on top when the shift attracts them.

If a quote only shows one number with no build-up, you cannot tell wage from margin. Ask for the structure. We will show ours on the confirmation.

What moves the number

What drives a rate up or down

01

Role and tickets

Licensed forklift and food-site work cost more than general labour. The ticket is the cost.

02

When they work

Nights, weekends and public holidays follow the agreement. They are not a surprise line on Friday.

03

How long the booking is

A one-off 4am call-out is not priced like a six-week block. Travel and screening have to be covered.

04

Site extras

Medicals, specific PPE or a long paid induction sit outside the base rate when the site requires them.

By role

Indicative shape — not a public dollar card

Until we publish agreed bands, this is the order of cost, not a price list. Ask for a quote on the actual shift.

Our model

First two hours free if they are not right

We price a named booking. You see what is included. If the person is not right for the work we were briefed on, the first two hours are free. That is the commercial version of “do not leave a mismatch on the line all night”.

It does not cover a brief that was wrong, a site that was not ready, or a cancellation after dispatch. We still want that call — a clean brief is what makes the guarantee usable.

Questions to ask any provider before signing

#AskWhy it matters
1What sits inside the hourly rate?Separates wage, on-costs and margin.
2When was the licence last sighted?A photocopy in a file is not a check today.
3What happens in the first two hours if they cannot do the job?Tells you who carries the mismatch.
4What is the minimum billed period on a call-out?Avoids a surprise after a 90-minute shift.
5Who is the employer, and who inducts?Health and safety duty does not leave the host.
6What is the temp-to-permanent fee, in writing, before shift one?Stops a fee being invented after you like someone.
